Solar Energy Programme

Demonstration of Solar Electrification unit at Rural Health Clinic provides access to improved health care services at remote rural village like   Kamarul, Terokhada Upazila under Khulna District, Bangladesh   ( UNDP supported)

Project Objective:  Delivering an adequate level of health care services in remote regions presents many  challenges. One of those challenges is to provide facilities with a reliable source of electricity. In both primary and secondary care situations, electrical power is often fundamental to the services that a public health system renders. Its absence at any moment can have dire consequences.

Site Location: Kamarul Health Clinic at Kamarul in Terokhada Upazila under Khulna district.  It may be mentioned that the clinic is located at a remote place which is about 13 km away from Upazila HQ and there is a very little prospect to cover the area under national grid network in the near future.

System Capacity: 1500 watt

Appliances: 20 Lamp (CF), 8 Fan, O.T. Light and a vaccine refrigerator.

Operation and Maintenance  (O& M) : The responsibility of operation and maintenance has been entrusted with a local NGO SJS.

Beneficiaries: About 30,000 people getting health care service.

Observation: Environmentally friendly solar systems ideal for use in rural health situations is their adaptability. Solar generating system is modular. This means they can be economically matched to meet specific power requirements, high reliability , cost-effective performance , no fuel requirements, long-term unattended operation,  low maintenance cost,  efficient matching of power to load,  having system expandability, easy installation, no pollution.

The solar installation has enhanced medical facility to the rural poor at the adjacent areas. Refrigerator performs excellent performance in preservation of vaccine, blood etc. PV system is operating well. A tremendous enthusiasm is observed among that locality.
