About CNG:


Gas is a natural resource of energy, commonly used in the residence and industry. This gas is compressed into cylinder, thus rightly is called Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to use as fuel in the automobiles.

Chemically CNG is high-pressed methane (CH4). No chemical changes take place in compressing natural gas into CNG. Also, it is not liquefied. Natural gas is compressed in order to preserve and carry large quantity of gas in cylinders.

CNG is used in the automobiles since 1940 and over the year technology is modified and tuned. Recently use of CNG has increased due to its low cost and environment friendliness.

Rahimafrooz Solar is started with a  pilot project with the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. Rahimafrooz Solar supplies solar-electricity to the remote villages of Bangladesh. In 1991 Solar Home System (SHS) of Rahimafrooz enlightened Mr. Bakaddas Mia’s family in Gopalganj. Apart from overcoming darkness of night by providing electricity it also enabled all of his children to educate themselves. It would not have been possible without SHS as his location was very remote.

In Satkhira Ms. Ayesha’s sewing activities used to come to an end after dusk before she got her SHS in 1999. With SHS she is able to sew even after dusk enabling her to fulfill the basic needs of her five children.

Mr. Abdullah, an unemployed young man of Gazipur, has found his livelihood in radio, TV repairing using Solar Home System in his home in 2001.

Centralized Solar Powered AC System has lightened the entire community of Jolodaspara in 2002. Now inhabitants of Jolodaspara can even watch color television, which was like a dream to them few days’ back. They also found the system much more effective for it’s centralized operation & maintenance facility.

BASICS ON AUTOMOTIVE BATTERY

 

How an automotive battery works

 

When you place the key in your car’s ignition and turn the ignition switch to “ON”, a signal is sent to the car’s battery. Upon receiving this signal, the car battery takes energy that it has been storing in chemical form and releases it as electricity. This electrical power is used to crank the engine. The battery also releases energy to power the car’s light and other accessories.

 

Safety precautions when handling a battery

 

Whenever you are handling or working with a lead-acid battery, consult your vehicle and battery owner’s manual for instruction and safety precautions.

Lead-acid battery contains hydrogen-oxygen gases that can be explosive and sulfuric acid that can cause severe burn. To help avoid such risk and injury, observe these precautions when handling or working with a lead-acid battery.

 

  • Wear safety glasses or goggles and a face shield.

  • Wear proper clothing to protect your face, hands and body.

  • Make sure work area is well ventilated.

  • Never lean on battery while boosting, testing or charging.

  • Cigarettes, flames or sparks could cause a battery to explode. Keep all the ignition sources away from the battery.

  • Always shield eyes and face from the battery.

  • Do not charge or use booster cables or adjust post connections without proper instructions and training.

  • Keep vent caps/plugs tight and level.

  • In the event of accident, flush with water and call a physician immediately.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

 

Maintenance of battery

 

Regular maintenance of your battery will ensure long life. You can consult your vehicles battery maintenance instructions or Rahimafrooz battery guarantee card for ready maintenance tips. These are simple and easy to follow.

 

  • Test your on a regular basis. Battery should be also tested before you drive for any long trips or before/after car has been serviced.

  • Maintain your vehicle as directed in your owner’s manual and/or by your mechanic. This will reduce the chance of other engine components draining power from your battery. It’s not always a battery’s fault when your car does not start, but often a symptom of other problems.

  • Regularly clean the battery container and terminals.

  • Make sure vent caps/plugs are tight to prevent water or baking soda from entering cells.

  • Apply baking soda to any corrosion and rinse cover with water.

  • Check your battery’s electrolyte level before charging. It should always be within the upper and lower limit mark.

  1. If electrolyte level is low, add distilled water to bring the electrolyte level close to the upper level mark.

  2. If distilled water is not available, add pure drinking water. It is better than adding nothing. Otherwise, the battery plate will dry out and battery could loose its capacity.

 

How to charge a battery

 

Often we charge battery by a wrong charger in a wrong way, this actually sometimes over charge or under charge a battery. Both the instances reduce the life of your car battery. Preferably before charging a battery refer to your car manual and your battery charger manual for instruction.

 

  • Use a calibrated battery charger appropriate for your battery capacity & size.

  • Set the battery charger at 10% of the battery’s total amp hour capacity.

  • In case of multiple battery charging at a time, charge same type of battery having same amp hour capacity at the same time.

  • Do not over charge or under charge a battery. An automatic battery charger with a timer that turns off after charging is the best fit.

Commitment to recycle

  • Battery acid is recycled by neutralizing it into water or converting it into sodium sulfate for laundry detergent, glass and textile manufacturing.

  • Plastic is recycled by cleaning the battery case, melting the plastic and reforming it into uniform pallets.

  • Lead, which makes up over 50% of every battery, is melted, poured into slabs and purified.

Some definitions

 

Active Material:

Chemically active compounds in a cell or battery that convert from one composition to another while producing current (electrical energy) or accepting current from an external circuit.

 

Battery Polarity:

 

A battery has two poles or posts. The positive battery post is usually marked POS, P, or + and is larger than the negative post which is usually marked NEG, N, or -. The polarity of the charger and battery must match to avoid damage to the battery and charger.

 

Cells:

 

The basic electrochemical current producing unit in a battery consisting of a set of positive plates, negative plates, electrolyte, separator and casing. There are six cells in a 12-volt lead-acid battery.

 

Container:

 

The polypropylene or hard rubber case that holds plates, electrolyte and separators.

 

Electrolyte:

 

A solution of sulfuric acid and water that conducts current through the movement of ions (charged particles in the electrolyte solution) between positive and negative plates. It supplies sulfate ions for reaction with the active material of both positive and negative plates.

 

 

Plates:

Flat, typically rectangular components that contain the active material and a mechanical support structure called a grid, which also has an electrical function, carrying electrons to and from active material. Plates are either positive or negative, depending on the active material that it holds.

What is Solar module?

A solar module is a device, which converts sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity.
 

What is the function of solar module?

It produces electricity, suitable for charging 12 volt batteries.
 

What is it made of?

Silicon cells connected electrically are placed between layers of protective materials. This “sandwich” is then heat laminated to a protective glass sheet. Anodised aluminum frame, surrounds the glass.
 

Are there different rated solar modules?

Yes, the power rating is measured in watts. Rahimafrooz Solar has a range of solar modules from 2 watts upto 75 watts, to cater for a variety of applications.
 

What is a solar system?

A simple solar system, for DC lights and appliances, consists of a solar module, a regulator (or charge controller), a battery and your load.
 

How can I calculate my load?

RAHIMAFROOZ Solar and solar dealers will ask you to complete a form detailing the number of lights, appliances etc. you wish to use. The wattage of each item is required, together with your average daily usage.
 

Do I need special cable?

To avoid voltage drop, you will need cables of larger diameter than standard cable, used in house wiring. RAHIMAFROOZ Solar can advise.
 

Does it sound like hard work?

Not really, it’s the only way anybody can calculate the right solar system to satisfy particular needs.
 

Can I use my 240 VAC applicances?

Yes, by installing an inverter into the system. An inverter is designed to convert DC electricity to 240 VAC.
 

Can I use both DC and AC appliances?

Yes, solar systems are versatile and can be designed for both, or converted at a later date.
 

What does a regulator do?

It controls the amount of charge going into the battery, from the solar module and stops the battery from overcharging.
 

Is it always necessary to have a regular?

Not for very small systems, using only a couple of modules. RAHIMAFROOZ Solar produces several solar modules, which are self-regulating. This means the module stops charging the battery, when it is fully charged.
 

What type of battery should I use?

Car batteries are not suitable. Only batteries designed for repeated cycling should be used. RAHIMAFROOZ Solar has a range of batteries from 40 to 1500 amp hour capacity, all designed for solar use.
 

What should be the size of my battery?

The battery size can be recommended once the system details are known. The smallest battery advisable is 40 amp hour.
 

What is cycling?

Cycling is the partial discharge of a battery and then recharging it to full charge.
 

When does cycling occur?

During nights, when the battery is discharged, without any solar charge getting into the battery, cycling will occur in solar systems. During the day, the solar modules will charge the batteries again.
 

What does “load” mean?

It is the total electricity demand of all your lights, fans, etc. and is measured in kilowatt-hours per day or ampere-hours per day.
 

What about guarantees on solar products?

RAHIMAFROOZ Solar guarantees its solar modules for 10 years and some of its batteries for 5 years. Regulators, inverters and other small items have a one-year warranty.
 

Can I expand my system at a later date?

Yes, RAHIMAFROOZ Solar systems are designed to grow with your needs. Additional solar modules and batteries can be added as required. In some cases a larger regulator will be needed, but this is the cheapest component in the whole system.
 

What does a typical system cost?

As each solar system is individually calculated for particular needs, the cost will vary according to the number of solar modules, batteries, etc., required for each system.

Who will install my solar system?

A DC system can be installed by a handyman, after installation advice from your local retailer. Owing to the dangers associated with 240 VAC, a licensed electrician is required to install your AC system Warm yourself up with solar water heating systems.
 

What is a solar hot water system?

Radiation from the sun is collected by a solar collector and converted into heat energy which in turn is used to heat the water. The hot water is then stored in an insulated tank.
 

What are the components of a Solar Hot Water System?

The components are flat plate collector, storage tank and instrumentation. Solar collector is the heart of solar hot water system. Collectors are made of copper absorbers, selectively black coated and housed in an aluminum box with a toughened glass lid. TATASOL collectors are tested rigorously and come with an ISI mark. Storage tank is made of stainless steel with a sacrificial anode ensuring corrosion resistance and longer life. Electronic temperature indicators with sensors are provided for accurate temperature control. (Optional)
 

How does a solar water heater work?

During day, the solar radiation falls on black coated copper absorber. This radiation is then converted to heat and convicted to water flowing through the absorber. This hot water is then stored in an insulated storage tank, so that hot water can be used the next morning, for bathing, washing, and other purposes.
 

How are they different from each other?

Hot water always has a lesser density and has a tendency to rise. Due to this natural phenomenon, in the thermosyphon system, the water circulates from collector to storage tank by natural convection. These systems are less efficient but are largely maintenance free, and can be used for smaller requirements of less than 3000 liters per day. In a forced circulation system, a pump is used to circulate the water from tank to collectors. These systems are used for capacities greater than 1000 liters per day. These systems have a greater control on output temperatures and can deliver upto a maximum temperature of 85°C, which can be used as feed water for boilers, cooking and sterilization in hospital.
 

Does a solar water heater work through out the year?

Solar water heaters are designed for winter conditions. So they give the rated output in winter. In summer, obviously they give higher output. During rainy seasons, we get water at lesser temperatures. On the whole, the solar water heater works for more than 300 days in a year.
 

How reliable is the solar water heater?

The TATASOL collectors are fully guaranteed. The thermosyphon systems are as reliable as the sun, as there are no moving parts and hence are maintenance free. The forced flow systems require proper designing. This is where RAHIMAFROOZ has an edge over other solar industries.
 

As the device is generally mounted on roof tops how about weathering of the water heater?

TATASOL collectors are made of non-ferrous parts, which are painted with a distinct but attractive yellow and black combination, which is weather protective and eco-friendly. The insulation of tanks and pipes are added with aluminum, which is again non-ferrous in nature. The support structures are epoxy painted.
