The term ‘Photovoltaic’ is derived by
combining the Greek word for light, ‘photos’ with volt, the
name of the unit of electromotive force- the force that
causes the motion of electrons. A solar cell
or photovoltaic cell is a device that
converts
light
energy into
electrical energy. Sometimes the term solar cell
is reserved for devices intended specifically to capture
energy from sunlight, while the term photovoltaic cell
is used when the light source is unspecified. A solar module
is composed of solar cells connected in series and parallel.
